What is the stock idle feed restriction size for 4382 & 4383 '70 outboard carburetors? I'm rebuilding the carbs right now & putting in Quick Fuel metering plates. The paperwork says the screw in idle feed restrictions that the plates come with are .039", but that I can change them. I'd like to go with the stock size hole. - I have a 650 speed demon and am in the process of trying to change out the idle feed restrictors due to being way too rich at idle. They are press-in (not screw in like on the bigger demons). I drilled them to the correct size and pressed them into the hole.

That is why I use the brass set screws -- they are WAY cheaper than bleeds. You will also be able to do idle feed restrictors, transfer slot restrictors, and any other orifice that needs tweaking.

The turbo's bearing will be the restriction. If you read the factory service manual from Holset they give you the free flow oil requirements for turbo and I am still a little low. Like I said, AFR at idle is close to 14, part throttle now is as well, but off idle (driving on the transfer slot) is way too lean. The LM-1 meter told us the engine was way rich at just off idle, so we first tried leaning out the idle-mixture screws, but it didn’t help. I think going to the .033 idle feed restrictors will be the last thing you will need to do, But lets say you put the .033's in and it still has slight stuble, then try the .061 idle air bleeds. I'd like to go with the stock size hole. - I tried upsizing the idle air bleed screws from the stock 0.07 to 0.08 (largest I could get at the moment) and it might have had a slight impact on a/f (like 0.1, hard to say). Upsizing them increased the idle RPM (and downsizing back to 0.07 decreased idle RPM), but had next to no effect on the a/f.

In most cases, it's only necessary to change the size of the primary restrictions. It should not be necessary, in most cases' to change the secondary idle feed restrictions. Remember, after each idle feed restriction change, you must re-adjust the idle mixture screws.

They only pass fuel when the engine vacuum drops enough to open the power valve. With a power valve losed not likely you issue. The others are your idle feed restrictions. They supply fuel to the idle and transition circuits.

The 600 and 650 have smaller idle feed restrictors in the metering blocks and smaller air bleed holes. I was tempted to drill the 650's air bleed the same size as the 750 and use the 750 metering block in the 650.
